On writing…

Why do you write romance? Because I want to read things that make me happy.  There’s enough trauma and drama and horror in the real world; I want to escape all of that when I read.  I love the optimism of the genre.

Where do you get your ideas? I wish I knew. Usually, a character or situation will pop to mind, and I build the book around that.  As for where any of it comes from? Beats me. My mind is such a mess of 80’s trivia, BtVS quotes, John Donne poetry, and old phone numbers I’m amazed anything bubbles to the top.

What’s your process like? I’m a somewhat linear writer, meaning I start at chapter one and type through to the end.  I tend to edit as I go, circling back to make changes in earlier parts of the book as things happen in later scenes. I usually have a pretty solid book by the time I reach “The End.”  But I’m very much a pantser, meaning that plotting things out in advance is difficult for me, and sometimes that gets me in trouble because I’m not sure what happens next.

Will you read my book and tell me if it’s any good? I’m flattered you’d ask, but no.  My agent doesn’t like me reading uncontracted manuscripts. I’m probably not a good person to ask anyway – I didn’t like Twilight, so what do I know?

Will you introduce me to your agent/editor?  I’m fortunate enough to work with some amazing people, and in a social situation, sure. They’re smart, funny and fun women.  However, I assume you’re asking in reference to your book, so the answer is no.  Sorry. They have their own submission processes they like people to follow, and those guidelines are posted on their websites.

On swag and appearances…

Can I get bookmarks or other promo items? Of course!  If you just want a couple for you, send a self-addressed stamped envelope (2 stamps) to PO Box 33, Madison, AL 35758. To request a large amount for an event, send an email to kimberly@booksbykimberly.com with details.

Will you donate signed books (or something else) to my fundraiser? I like to support good causes when I can. Just send your request – what you need, for what/which charity (include a URL or Facebook page), the date needed by, and a contact/shipping address – to kimberly@booksbykimberly.com. I’ll see what I can do.

Will you come to my event/speak to my group? I’m a Sagittarius, and we Sags love to travel! I also love to talk, so that’s good, too. I can even do online events, if that’s your speed. Send me the details and we’ll see what we can work out.

Will you send me a copy of your book? I get a lot of requests from readers for books — free books, signed books, ARCs, etc. It’s simply not feasible or practical to fulfill those individual requests. I’m very sorry. I do give away books (and other things!), though, through contests on my and others’ websites, blogs, and other social media. I’d recommend that you follow me on Facebook or Twitter or sign up for my newsletter so you’ll know about those giveaways.  Reviewers can contact the publisher directly for review copies.

On the books…

How can I keep up with the latest Kimberly Lang news and new releases? You can sign up for my newsletter, follow me on Twitter, friend me on FaceBook or Like my fan page. Or do all of those, and never miss a thing!

Which one of your books is your favorite? That’s an impossible question. Could you choose which of your children you love best?

Where can I get a full list of your books? A printable list – all the books, which ones are connected and in what order – is available here.  The Books page has all the books listed (in reverse order), and each book’s page contains excerpts, ordering links, foreign editions and awards.

Where can I buy your books? Anywhere books are sold – Amazon, Kobo, B&N, BAM, you name it. My full backlist is available in ebook format. Click any of the bookstore buttons on my homepage to be taken to that store’s list.

Are there any free copies of your books available for download? Sometimes my publisher will put a book out for free, and if that happens, I’ll have the information clearly displayed on my website and social media pages. Reviewers can request review copies from Netgalley (when available) or from the publisher. Otherwise, no.  Any website offering free downloads of my books is doing so illegally. Please don’t support piracy! (For an explanation how piracy hurts authors and readers, please read this.)
